Warm drinks are good for maintaining internal energy in winters

New Delhi :

In winter, drinking warm drinks can boost up your internal energy levels which generally dip down during the cold months.

Drinking warm drinks during winter is equal to wearing a woollen hat on head or socks on feet. It is all about preserving the internal energy of the body.

Digestive system and kidneys are akin to body’s internal power station.

Well, warm drinks are better to sip before and after meals, which is good for digestive system. This will also help in better absorption of nutrients. It also helps prevent gas, bloating and full, heavy feeling in stomach. But coffee should be kept far away when choosing the hot drink, because it reduces appetite and irritates intestinal mucous.

However, herbal infusions like lemon, ginger, fennel, rosemary, aniseed and cinnamon- produce heat in body and promote digestion. Plant milk like almond, hazelnut, soy, coconut can be good option for tasty warm drink.

Kale, celery and chard can be used for soups and broths.

Fruit puree at room temperature and fruit tart warmed in oven are also some options if you can’t go for lemon, ginger.

And yes not to forget, those cold juice detox plans are not good choices in winters. They can disrupt the digestive system and its microbiota, especially when your fiber intake is low.

You can also go for soups. Root vegetables are particularly mild on stomach and so can be good choices.
